LIGHT ON THE BETHLEHEM STAR/COMET/ALIGNMENT DEBATES

magiblue2

SOME PEOPLE WILL SAY ALMOST ANYTHING ABOUT THE STAR….

[UPDATE: CHRISTIAN TODAY  BYPASSES INFO BELOW TO FEATURE ARTICLE ON THE B STAR – KNOWN VIA C.S.LEWIS’ NARNIA! bit.ly/2h3AJpS ]

To cut to the chase in this issue, let’s get some things out of the way first. There are some rather complicated and silly theories about the Bethlehem Star that have drawn a lot of attention and even been the subject of films.

One of them wishes to associate Christ’s birth with Jupiter/Venus conjunctions in 3 and 2 BC which if astrology concerned the Magi at all, and it did, would be ridiculous. Jupiter/Venus is about riches, success and the good life, the sort of thing the crucified Jesus denied his natural Jupiterian kingship did not experience; and good astrology is about what is and what will be, not what merely could be. Royal Jupiter prominent would need to suffer modification and challenge from somewhere. This it did from Saturn in 7 BC if one follows the D’Occhieppo/Hughes theory from two noted astronomers that was widely praised in academic circles back in the late seventies and mentioned more recently by Pope Benedict in his The Infancy Narratives (2012) as a plausible explanation of the facts. (7 BC as a birth date is disfavoured by some because it wouldn’t make Jesus “about thirty” at the time of his ministry, but  as ages could be counted in multiples of five 30 could indicate anything from 30 to 35).

Another Star theory from such as Michael Molnar and in recent days the astronomer Grant Matthews, would link Jesus’s birth to planetary phenomena involving bellicose Aries, sign of the outgoing era (incoming was Pisces), a sign with perhaps the least automatic association with Jesus’ life and character. Matthews even seems to imagine the Saturn which is part of his alignment, is a giver of life – hardly the most standard image of Saturn whether ancient or modern. Basically both scientists and conservative Christians are in harmony to wish astrology out of the picture as far as possible…..which only helps to keep the ignorance and confusion going. (The Christians never explain why not even the Essenes and Talmudic rabbis considered astrology “divination” against the Law).

The claims for a comet are more persuasive and I come to that presently, but first for a bit of frank dogmatism.

THE BETHLEHEM STAR DEFINITELY WAS….

As per the D’Occhieppo’/Hughes thesis which I have radically developed and may be said to have completed, the Bethlehem Star itself was Jupiter at 19 Pisces during its second conjunction with Saturn in Pisces in 7 BC….

If anyone could now possibly doubt this after reading the mass of evidence given in my Testament of the Magi, goo.gl/I28aCm for the total pattern that the emphasized, relevant Jupiter oversees, let them get back and tell me. It could be a tough job, one which perhaps especially unbelievers might prefer to avoid altogether rather than tackle for its striking revelations. No other birth data for Jesus can begin to rival it with everything from the Part of Brothers conjunct asteroid James to the natal sun (the core identity) conjunct the Part of Redemption in the case of someone called the Redeemer. Flukes and coincidences can occur to mislead in any research enterprise, but not on the scale I produce. You couldn’t invent it. The picture can’t not be Jesus described through an unprecedented tell-all birth chart (for which of course a godless media and publishing has “no room at the inn” – not so much as an author’s op ed in a paper drawing attention to an historic discovery!).

The data is so efficient it even works, as a true chart should, for Jesus events to this day….it has even been doing so in the last few days with the tiresome intervention of Grant Matthews to distort matters through his suggestions there was no Bethlehem star. It’s a claim advanced just as transiting Saturn (restriction, doubt) makes what’s called affliction square aspect to the Jupiter of Christ’s birth and at that from the organized religions and universities sign of Sagittarius. (So the waters just had to be muddied, and the disproof rather than proofs that too many  now want, promoted by someone from the noted Catholic University of Notre Dame. It was a promotion facilitated not just by the fact Jupiter was approaching the astronomer’s Libran sun but by the fact a fortunate, easy trine of transiting Venus was directing upon the degree of the astronomer’s name, Grant,  itself in Jesus’ horoscope in the house of whatever undermines, as news reached the press on December 2nd. Far from being imprecise, astrology can be all too precise – again, one just couldn’t invent something like Matthews intervention to question Matthew’s gospel).

If, impossibly, the case I make in Testament of the Magi could be wholly disproved, the data would need to be the greatest statistical anomaly of all time to present  quite so much descriptive accuracy against chance.

BUT WHAT ABOUT A COMET?

The question one may nonetheless still ask is: could something else, connected to or additional to the certifiable factors of the birth pattern be involved?

I never particularly wished to associate a comet with Christ’s birth because his birth is “good tidings of great joy” and by tradition comets have always been deemed unfortunate. Colin Nicholl’s The Great Christ Comet, nonetheless argues that the association of comets with misfortune is not an exceptionless universal rule. Since I anyway seek to take the tragedy of Jesus’ earthly life into account (as with Saturn modifying Jupiter) I must accept the possibility a comet could relate to and amplify the picture and I now think it may have done so. A long tailed comet pointed downward might even account for long held and popular notions of some miraculous, independent, brilliant “star” that “stood over the place”. (The early church father Origen did go so far as to suppose a comet).  But “standing over the place” is of course something no comet (or planet) would ever exactly do, though it is how writing and writers of the times would describe things – Josephus had a comet “standing over Jerusalem” before its fall in 70 AD and I think we can assume the Jewish Matthew’s literary style would particularly incline him to make any star or comet something like Israel’s pillar of fire to go before the people.

Apart from the fact the plain sense reading of Matthew’s text has always been taken to support the idea of a star (aster) rather than the kometes word it doesn’t use, one problem with a comet as opposed a star “pointing” anywhere, is if it was very noticeable wouldn’t Herod’s court already have seen it? It would be much easier for Herod to be ignorant of the motions and specialized astrological implications of planetary configurations. That’s why he consults with the Magi rather than just steps outside to gaze at the heavens.  So if it was involved in events, a comet would surely not need to be at its greatest magnitude,  brightest and nearest earth as Nicholl wants to have it. The latter occurred in 6 BC, not 7 BC and it’s by assuming a 6 BC over against a 7 BC birth that I feel Nicholl weakens such case as he has. But I return to this presently.

MOTIONS OF THE ALLEGED COMET

The real problem with Nicholl’s comet which he even proposes may have been the greatest and brightest in history is, did it truly exist? Ironically this is never made perfectly clear amid the often complex data of his academic study, the interviews and reviews (readers who bought into hype about the book’s racy narrative might wonder given the technicalities and learned notes!). All I can say is that even though like most comets, especially the long period ones, it isn’t found in historical records, the comet could still have existed and apparently the Armagh Observatory seems prepared to credit its existence and has “reconstructed” it.

I can’t possibly assess this and I think Nicholl and Armagh need to explain more, plus I do wish that Nicholl, who imagines a Jupiter/Saturnconjunction of 7 BC could have accompanied and  alerted the Magi to the growing comet, would observe some basics of symbolic grammar and logic – it’s inadmissible to think of Jupiter as symbol of “God most high” and in relation to it Saturn as Israel. Jupiter is the younger over against  the Saturnian person or thing that’s elder in time, a son figure as against a patriarchal Saturn, Rome’s Dei Filius, son of God. Regardless……what I can state is that since one can now read what is not supplied in Nicholl’s study, namely the GCC’s supposed motions across centuries according to Swiss Astrodienst, then perhaps the comet was real. If so and I am not then dealing with the few allowable flukes and coincidences that could attend any wide ranging thesis, there does look to be something potentially significant in those motions.

On the day and time I claim Jesus was born, the GCC at 21 Aquarius was conjunct Jesus’ 20 degree all-important Aquarian destiny and reputation Midheaven (itself conjuncted among other things by his Joshua/Jesus name) plus mysteriously too and as though symbolizing some kind of life fulfilment, the GCC was on the precise degree of the Bethlehem Star on the day and time in 30 AD that, in possibly the most remarkable chapter of my book, I show that Christ would have to departed this world. But there’s not only this.

Early December 7 BC is one of the times Nicholl singles out for meaningful but not maximum visibility of his comet. Following David Hughes in assuming that the Magi arrived in Jerusalem in early December around the time of the third Jupiter/Saturn conjunction, (which is to say after Jesus’ actual birth as the gospel implies), I naturally look to see what the GCC is doing around December 5th.

Strangely enough, it is at 14 Aquarius. In my book I point out this could be the most crucial, sensitive degree for the Magi since it’s Jesus’ degree of asteroid Chaldaea (and even on an axis with DavidHughes at 14 Leo who has helped return to us the Chaldaean secrets). Fascinatingly, at the time of the third and last era conjunction on 5th December 7 BC, the transiting sun in Sagittarius (sign of any foreigners and philosophies) was in favourable aspect to Jesus’ 14 degree Chaldaea at the same time as Saturn (the authorities, restriction) afflicted it. Is this celestial shorthand for hopeful Magi arriving and finding trouble and then needing an extra sign? It could be. It’s at least suggestive.

THE GREAT SIGN OF THE WOMAN IN VIRGO

Perhaps because it’s harder to imagine Middle Eastern Magi (who it’s accepted were aware of the special phenomena of 7 BC) being able to predict from and follow a comet rather than the planets, Nicholl wants and needs to associate Christ’s birth with extremely visible, obvious, minimally or non-astrological phenomena in the heavens specifically associated with the constellation Virgo and in especially 6 BC. But to do this he has to assume that Revelation 12’s vision of the birth of a man child is describing the patterns of Jesus’ gestation in the womb and birth itself against the background of the stars. Yet this same apocalyptic vision with its portent in the heavens is supposed to be prophetic, not historic. (I briefly consider this same vision, currently of interest in some circles due to what will be a rare highlighting of the constellation Virgo in 2017, in a recent article The Astronomy and Astrology of Apocalypse: Could there be such? http://wp.me/p2v96G-OA )

Whatever the truth about a comet and the Rev 12 vision, plainly the vision can never, I think, be made to time Christ’s  birth or even just generally accompany it…..unless as regards a paralleling one could factor in one or two other ideas beyond present scope but that concern the prophet Micah’s prophecy of the Messiah in chapters 4 and 5 whose implications Nicholl ignores. This could allow both some kind of delay factor and duplication in the nature of what is seen as being birthed which is not the Messiah only.

Given this modification one could allow that the birth of Christ might still have a connection of sorts to the celestial signs of the Rev 12 pattern……but more as a sign of a whole messianic season than as guide to the precise birth day of the Messiah. This concession would also allow, as I think it should, that the supposed lesser light of the comet in 7 BC at the time of the last Jupiter/Saturn conjunction, can still be relevant. Whatever the comet might subsequently and however spectacularly do, is then seen as part of a more  general visionary picture, even celestial celebration of the incoming era – why, after all,  should only one day alone describe and celebrate a nativity and whole era with all the changes it bring right through to its ending regarding which the pattern might also supply clues.

We are presently at the end of the same era (the Piscean, age of grace, era) the Magi helped signal. I even believe that is why it is now possible for us finally to know the details of what it was the Magi knew and more than they knew. The information is at once historic and prophetic……One could even make poetry out of it….I have done this (adding some extraordinary facts in prose) on the blog The Magi at Era’s End: A Poem http://wp.me/p2v96G-ip

THE BIG JESUS AND JUPITER WEEKEND

  Washington

THE BIG JESUS AND JUPITER WEEKEND

I admit to have felt stumped as regards predictions, or even just seeing sufficient synchronicities in the face of what is going on around Jupiter, the “fireworks” currently issuing from it and the arrival of the Juno probe giving unprecedented new insights into the nature of the planet.

Last blog I listed nine reasons why even the well known Billy Graham is wrong, as most believers from evangelicals to Catholics usually are, about “horoscopes” (i.e. astrology). It is in any case also the fact that I have long claimed not only to know when Jesus was born but to have data so accurate that it still works to this day as regards Jesus issues.

Even so I admit I had no idea what might be forecast this time, or even in this instance if anyone should be looking for a relevant Jesus event that corresponded to unusual visible as opposed to just transit activity around Jupiter at this time.

Jupiter is the planet of religion, faith, belief, hope and grace and like many, but for rather more reasons, I have long claimed Jupiter is the star of Bethlehem itself. And as I write (July 16th here in Australia) Jupiter by transit is within a degree to exact conjunction with the birth sun of Jesus –it’s exact next week. With or without things to see, by rights something very Jupiterian should occur around Jesus. But what?

I hadn’t been aware until today what that might be when I derived some information from the same Christian Post that carried the Graham article earlier this month, namely that during this last week, over this weekend especially and next week there is the Together 2016  event or Just Jesus rallies.

The major weekend event aims to draw around a million to the Washington DC region – the hope is that this will be the single largest gathering in American history in service of “revival”. The idea is a general exaltation of Jesus with worship and prayers for revival everywhere but especially in America. Washington would seem like the fated global site for such an event since the Washington asteroid (Washingtonia) is within a degree of conjunction with Jesus’ natal sun!

Jupiter is inclusive so most denominations are joining in and represented – even the Pope has been engaged to pray. The plan has been in preparation for the last ten years and more seriously for the last four. The emphasis hardly seems very Trinitarian and arguably the world and “revival|” might need more emphasis upon creation and the almost forgotten or ignored Creator/Father.  Still, the Jesus emphasis is harmonious with specifically a Jupiter event. Jupiter is involved very much with Jesus as Messiah

With restrictive Saturn currently transiting in Sagittarius, (the sign of all and any organized religion), contrary anti-revival news is not surprising and it challenges all the Jupiter linked event aims at. One thinks for example of the draconian laws signed in by Putin of Russia this last week which forbid any talk of religion without state permission and even private home worship rendered dangerous for all except Russian Orthodox. Then there is nowadays the endless tale of horrors in the persecution of Christians everywhere from Pakistan to North Korea which the secular post-Christian West, more concerned with subjects like transgender rights, cruelly and inexcusably ignores.

So…songs and prayers for “revival” in the secular world are not meaningless though perhaps against persecution might be still more meaningful at the present moment!

One day, (even I hesitate to say when, though I do have my ideas), what I have to say about the Bethlehem Star will be known and heard as it needs and deserves to be for the general good. Last Christmas season critics were almost falling over themselves about the publication of James Nicholl’s The Great Christ Comet: Revealing the Bethlehem Star. As an evangelical automatically opposed to astrology, one influential religion writer was even “in awe” of the thesis, which however doesn’t arrive at the truth or only a small portion of a vastly more awesome and clearly demonstrable range of facts. But like love the path of real Truth ne’er ran smooth and “no room at the inn” from those who should be concerned and promoting is perhaps only to be expected.

For interest I will paste in conclusion from a note I am placing at the end of the pages of planet, asteroid and Parts lists in my study a new edition of which will be released later this year.

NOTE: THE GREAT CHRIST COMET

Though I do not believe that by itself any comet was or can be a guide to the exact day or time of Jesus’ birth, I have included in the above list the positions according to Astrodienst for biblical scholar Colin Nicholl’s theorized “Great Christ Comet”. (Colin R Nicholl, The Great Christ Comet: Revealing the True Star of Bethlehem, Wheaton: Crossway, 2015). Though there’s no written record of it apparently the comet existed and the fact that at the birth this celestial phenomenon was conjunct Christ’s destiny Midheaven (and even at his Leavetaking conjunct the degree of the Bethlehem Star), confirms my immediate initial suspicion that what is described had something broadly to do with the messianic times and seasons surrounding the nativity, but not more. Accordingly I do not at all accept that any signs related to Christ’s birth date would be, as Nicholl speculates but cannot prove, involved with the celestial pattern – surely intended to be prophetic rather than historic! – of the woman clothed with the sun in Revelation 12. It is worth noting that the hype attaching to publication of the book and its theory was almost wholly due to its theological and scientific face-saving reliance on astronomy as opposed to astrology, objections to which  repeatedly prevent the truth from being known and declared.

THE MAGI AT ERA’S END: A POEM

THE MAGI AT ERA’S END: A POEM

THE MAGI AT ERA’S END: A POEM  (followed by a feature indicating how its information is true and still works vividly today)

Tzedek, great lord of liberty and righteousness
With Shabtai symbol of the Sabbath rest
Serene across the desert plains you once rose
Not as prodigy yet bearer of high mysteries, [1]
Even limitless, with secrets to unsettle kings
And mark beginnings of an age
Now entered on its anguished end.

Magi who fled into the night, of all
You witnessed and declared you left no trace
Except what was enshrined in precious gifts.
Gold was a royal sun and bright divinity,
Myrrh was your Shabtai, Saturn of burial,
Endings and the God of Law, while Frankincense
Was Jupiter for the priestly chosen one. [2]

Inside degrees stargazers of the Gentile
Lands attributed to Israel, two stars
Conjoined as sign the One of Ancient Days
Had sent and blessed the filial messenger.
They shone near blended as one light
Themselves in opposition to a set,
Long hidden sun of night within the
Maiden sign of dedication [3] This was
The centre of a horoscope, this was
The vital core of what you knew,
A life of  kingship, service, prophecy
But then of conflict too with persons
Of authority and faith all promising
One cruel end – judicial execution. [4]

Yet even you who wondered, sought and
Who adored, even you with whom an era
Was begun could not see all, were not disclosed
The further secrets time unfolds. No tables
And no instruments of yours could tell
The same night of nativity inscribed
The names and titles in the skies, would
Place the forebears in their proper house, [5]
Would as one pattern signify and far beyond
The time of death, would work throughout an age’s
Span, so much there is no question you were right.
Those mysteries you first divined for which you
Left far Persian homes are something we may
Certify; yours was the truth we can enlarge.

Between long centuries if much has changed
Among those things which stay the same, include
There lacks the room within the inn for either whom
You came to find or else the wisdom you reveal.
Most wish to know the authentic Christ, or if
The messiah lived and died. For some it’s
Curiosity, for others it’s their means
Of gain; even so, contempt, indifference
Or hate is all there is to greet suggestion
That they trace your way resolving most
They want to know. “It would not fit our list”
The godless publisher opines, the same who’ll milk
Religion for the Magdalene. “I don’t do myth” another
Says (who deals in lies). Of enemies the worst
And almost furthest from the truth, the followers
Of Christ know best: there is nor can be fate
Or astral truth, it’s devil’s work, forbidden
Divination, no magi were astrologers –
Even though Talmudists and the Essenes
Were, as they aggressively ignore.

And thus for arrogance religion joins
The scientist who quite denies the heavens
Speak knowledge as the Psalm would say. [6]
So now the ship of fools sails on faced to
Those storms – expression of an age’s end
Unrecognized –  confused around the ways of God
Through scriptures of the Hebrew and the Greek
Which seem to clash and cancel each their vision out
Because how God’s face and the symbols change
With eras’ turn, believers neither see
Nor do they even wish to know. [7]

Not even the apostle gladly suffered fools.
O cross beneath the Southern Cross to endure
The leaders, blind, who block and hinder
On the path, to realize near to cycle’s end
There’s scarcely more of wisdom now than
Greeted Magi at the first! What light
May hope to penetrate the obscuring mists,
The enveloping gloom? It may be none.
What can be justified and known awaits
The next, the coming time whose lightning
Sign divides the sky. Let this awake
The dead and open eyes, the mystery
No more a Bethlehem child, more like
A midnight bridegroom’s wild surprise.[8]

NOTES

[1] Acronychal risings as of Jupiter (rising opposite the sun’s setting) were not miraculous or prodigies like shooting stars, but they were deemed significant, watched for in ancient political astrology and associated with special births. “We have seen his star in the East” should read “we have observed the ascension of his star”, his star being the messianic Jupiter.
[2] Frankincense was the incense of the Temple and had priestly associations. Jesus will be imaged among other things as a high priest [Heb 8:1]  though Jupiter depending also enjoyed royal (princely) associations and in Jesus priestly and princely images merge.
[3] Ancient astrology inclined to more literalistic, fatalistic readings than would apply today. Especially for a presumed ruler, Sun opposite Saturn in a heavy sign for it like Pisces could be seen as a tragic end or execution (perhaps through religious forces given the Jupiter contact) rather than just a  difficult life. Sun opposite Saturn plus potential conjunction conflict with Jupiter corresponds to suffering and the burial incense myrrh in a way theories of “biblical astronomy” don’t with their Jupiter/Venus patterns more akin to lives of the rich and famous (or even lucky devils) than Messiahs!
[4] i.e. this was a night birth with sun in Virgo. The new era was Pisces or rather the Pisces-Virgo era. It is the sign opposite Pisces defines the collective ideal and under Virgo Jesus will represent that to Pisces.
[5] i.e. then unseen, unnamed factors like asteroids have filled in the gaps.
[6] Ps 19:2. The claim that every night the skies are giving knowledge would only be true if as in the astrology Christians deny, heavenly signs were continuous and not exceptional
[7] Confusion over the such differences in imagery and values as the God of the OT being “Lord God of Armies” and N.T. “Prince of Peace” are more explicable in terms of era change, -the militaristic associations of Aries and the more forgiving ones of Pisces, the fires of Aries and the seas of Pisces etc. Christians avoid these obvious facts of traditional astrology while some pursue the often arbitrary and confused “biblical astronomy”.
[8] In one of the apocalyptic parables Christ is the unexpected midnight bridegroom (Matt 25:5). Shocks and lightning are of Aquarius.

RIGHT TIMING A JESUS EVENT AND WHY THE NOW FORGERY-FREE JAMES OSSUARY BOX ALMOST CERTAINLY LINKS TO JESUS’ BROTHER AND FAMILY

[The following is one of many pieces, but an important one, in the puzzle offering unexpected evidence for the above claims from an unexpected quarter…….The much disputed James Ossuary Box, claimed to be the only artefact that can be associated with Jesus’ family, after having been declared free of forgery charges last year is now the centre of a criminal investigation. It is so because IAA investigators and Israeli police have controversially applied a silicon substance they might have known could harm the chances of ever perfectly certifying further issues around the age and authenticity of the box’s vital inscription. My article from last year for a now abandoned site is re-issued, slightly altered here in light of journalist Matthew Kalman’s Nov 10th Blog feature at http://bit.ly/1bNvkF3 which raises the question: can we now ever hope to know the truth? Sadly it looks like we can’t…..unless via the contested route I describe here which offers its own proof, because….how many agreements and coincidences can one have and then just ignore them? I put the point to Kalman, a Guardian and Jerusalem Report journalist who has not acknowledged or replied]

RIGHT TIMING A JESUS EVENT

Over a decade ago in early ‘02 when asked to suggest a good time to launch a Jesus related book of mine in New Zealand, I proposed (what proved impossible to fulfil) the weekend of 19/20 October. I believed Jesus might well be in the news around then, though I wasn’t sure quite how he would be so.

On the 21st Oct news from Israel was announced of a potentially momentous discovery of maybe the world’s only Jesus related artefact. This was an ossuary box inscribed as belonging to James, “the son of Joseph and brother of Jesus”. James died (martyred) in 62 and Israel only produced ossuary boxes between 20 BC and the 70 AD fall of Jerusalem. The three names were common at the time, but the relationship between them in one inscription was obviously suggestive. The limestone is from the right period, but since ‘02 there has been inevitable controversy over whether the inscription could be genuine. The box’s owner Oded Golan was accused of forgery, but after a frustrating decade of legal proceedings was judged innocent of the charges as of 14.3.12.

I suspected Jesus would be in the news in late October ‘02 because in a radical extension of respected researches of astronomers Ferrari D’Occhieppo and David Hughes I claim to know and prove exactly when Christ was born as per my Testament of the Magi (2009). Before saying more on that scepticism and dismissal-inviting and mostly just ignored claim I shall mention the following. In the heavens at the time of the ’02 announcement, what is called the fated nodal axis lay across 10 Gemini/Sagittarius. A decade later on March 14th ’12 with the ossuary (whether related to Jesus’ family or not), declared no forgery, that same axis stood at its almost perfect exact reversal at 9 Sagittarius/Gemini.

HIGHLIGHTING JAMES AS BROTHER

This coincidence might seem to be no more than that except for another rather crucial one. In my data for Christ’s birth (which I happened to discover on March 14th twenty five years ago) the asteroid JAMES falls at 9 Gemini (itself sign of any twins or brothers) and conjuncts besides astrology’s Part of Brothers on the same degree. JAMES in turn is very close to Jesus’ so called ascendant angle (the degree on the horizon when Christ was born). Since angles are affected by major events concerning a person during and even beyond their earthly lives, given factors like the nodes conjuncting this angle and then Neptune (for many modern astrologers the Christ planet) fortunately trine it in late Oct ’02, plus these factors following an eclipse which that year had positively trined Jesus’ destiny/reputation Midheaven angle to within minutes of a degree of accuracy, I could guess Jesus would be in the news in some notable way. (The chart can claim extreme accuracy. As early as 1988 the late Gwen Stoney, an Australian specializing in little used German timing techniques was satisfied the  birth time fell with 30 seconds of accuracy for a painful death for the given date and time of crucifixion in AD 30).

But I had not taken into account something in effect unknowable but relevant. If, as I obviously wasn’t expecting in the twenty first century, anything material such as any artefact could belatedly be linked to Jesus and his family, then that should relate to the most bodily/physically associated sector of his birth chart, namely the ascendant angle. So… if there were any artefact found, factors affecting this ascendant and with links to James and brothers, could well bring out something to do with them too.

A VIRGINITY AND MOTHERHOOD CONTROVERSY

Actually, for many people discovery of the ossuary box brings out something else: a major question around the mother. The Catholic church is sceptical of and opposed to the ossuary not least because Mary is deemed “ever virgin”. Arguments for ossuary authenticity could help undermine belief in perpetual virginity if James could be certified as Joseph’s son by Mary rather than only a cousin or perhaps half brother by some previous marriage of Joseph as per traditions since especially St Jerome.

It happens that the reason that originally I had myself entertained a few doubts the find was genuine was because with Neptune the mystery planet highlighting Jesus’ ascendant there could just be confusion and delusion. However…. Neptune is liable to herald confusion as opposed to illumination when what astrologers call “affliction” (bad aspect) is involved. Neptune in ‘02 was not afflicting the ascendant in that way suggesting deceit. It was if anything registering fortunate shock towards the materially relevant ascendant angle from the surprises sign Aquarius. Moreover, as said, astrologers today regard Neptune, if and when working positively in this way, as the Christ planet itself in religious contexts. So if the Christ planet fortunately trines the ascendant….the artefact would be authentic and could relate to Jesus?

But what might acceptance of the ossuary do to the rather crucial question of the mother and family relationships? We can well ask because the birth pattern shows Jesus’ mother as very much involved with James too.

In astrology the moon is universally the mother symbol. The moon at Christ’s birth fell at 8 Gemini where it conjuncts the Part of Children at 9 Gemini. So James at 9 Gemini ought to be Mary’s child at the same time as being Jesus’ brother. Which means the Virgin wasn’t a virgin? The celestial answer would seem to be….at any rate not perpetually so!

The heavens seem determined only to affirm what the first believers held, namely that Mary was a virgin when she bore Jesus. All said and done, and against every statistical probability, we find Jesus’ maternal moon was conjuncted either side by the only two virgin asteroids in the heavens in any language, namely JUNGFRUN and BETULAH (God’s virgin). And this Gemini moon was not in any fixed sign that would better signal anything as permanent as “perpetual” within the temporal and material realm. The moon was nonetheless challengingly opposed by a conjunction of AETERNITAS (Eternity) and GABOR (The Hebrew word for the strength of God) with the Part of the Father, with its obvious affinity for “the Power of the Most High will overshadow you” (Luk 1:35).

But recall that belief in Mary’s perpetual virginity is first suggested by the probably late second century Protoevangelion of James which an early church father Origen mentions as containing this belief he considered dubious. The gospel is pseudepigraphical, i.e. not authored by the apostle, but still the name and identity of James would now be forever indissociable from mysteries of Mary. So the skies reflect the connection even while they challenge the derivative belief.

A TIME OF RECOGNTION

I doubt these and other coincidences would hang together if the discovery of the ossuary was not somehow significant as the sole artefact linked to Jesus’ name we may possess and are likely now ever to possess. Why else would Christ’s birth data which register to this day for such as Dan Brown and the onslaughts of sceptics as they affect the reputation and understanding of Christ, be registering the case of the James ossuary so closely?

I have a further consideration. In astrology Jupiter is deemed the register of truth in any question. It is also central to the line of inquiry I have long pursued that Jupiter was “his star”, the Star of Bethlehem itself. 9 degrees Taurus is traditionally a critical degree meaning it’s strong and carries special significance. I therefore ask myself why Jupiter, “his star” and register of truth in astrology for any legal affairs, would be on this same critical 9 degrees when judgement gets passed that the ossuary is not a fake? For Jesus’ birth 9 Taurus is significant as a site of recognition. It is his degree of the asteroids ANNA and SPIRIT and even the Part of Spirit – Anna the prophetess in the Temple is said to recognize the child as the Messiah by the Spirit.

It must be conceded in all this that astrologers would raise questions about any supposedly final decision on anything made as the court’s decision was with Mercury in its apparent retrograde motion. By tradition a declaration under that influence could only be subject to revision. But no doubt the argument will go on! We may reasonably suspect in this instance that this Mercury signifies as much and more a call to a more general revision of people’s opinions, everything from the nature of Jesus’ family to the truth of celestial signs in relation to Jesus and life at large.

I am once again compelled to affirm the data for Christ’s birth have been found beyond all reasonable doubt if everyone from secularists to fundamentalists could somehow overcome their various prejudices sufficiently to look at the evidence which always works and rings true down to minor details. (The leading theologian to have argued for and  written on the veracity of the find has never replied to me. For theologians as for scientists astrologers don’t or shouldn’t exist even if they’re doctors of religious studies!). It’s astro-archaeology not archaeology, but significant in its way and more revelatory and wide-ranging than any archaeology for Christ if fragments for such could ever be found. For those who would insist against the surprising claims of the above that Jesus’ brother was anyway really Jacob rather than James, a JACOB asteroid also exists….it’s found at his birth in Jesus’ house of origins and in the same sign, but suitably not conjunct, his disfavoured alienated wife Leah (asteroid LIIA), along with names of his ancestors, rather than his brothers.

In other words the skies are precise, and as one of Jesus’ forebears insisted, they “utter knowledge” (Ps 19). They do so even though as the Church Times would tell us (as they told me in refusing a feature years ago on the subject of Jesus’ natus ), “we know all there is to know about Jesus, we don’t need to know about the Magi”, or as the Archbishop of Canterbury would propose for Christmas 07, the Magi were probably just myth anyway.

Further details emerging:

TORONTO AND JAMES

Back in ’82 the news regarding the James Ossuary was released through – and all the main debates engaged about it have centred in – Toronto. It was also the site of the emergency problem that nearly cancelled the unique public display of the box when it was discovered that transportation had produced unexpected cracks. Where is asteroid TORONTO in Jesus’ birth?

James 9.27 Gemini
Toronto 9.25 Pisces in 10th house of destiny/reputation…..

in other words, Toronto is almost to the minute of a degree in astrology’s classic square affliction aspect of 90 degrees to indicate difficulty, problems, arguments and linked to Jesus’ own reputation and identity too in some way.

AN ISSUE OF MARCH 14th

I was surprised and wondered if it meant anything that declaration against fakery occurred on March 14th. . It was the same day that a quarter of a century earlier I believed I had discovered the birth data for Jesus. Just coincidence? Maybe, but for both dates it highlights sun at 23 degrees Pisces which had always struck me as an odd degree for the discovery. But what does it mark in Jesus’ birth? It is the position of asteroid POOR on an axis (i.e. directly opposite) QUMRAN. The Essenes were alternatively often referred to as “the poor”.

23 Pisces/Virgo has to be the Essene axis of Jesus’ natus. Scholars have often suspected connections of Jesus and/or James with the Essenes – the scholar Eisenman in a massive tome on James, to the eccentric extreme most of us disagree with, and his interventions at Toronto demanding to be heard for his theories weren’t well received. But it was nonetheless the Essenes who searched for the Messiah in the stars. In effect, my discoveries are bringing back the Essenes and an aspect of their teachings which Christianity has rejected and overlooked. Which means that under the rules my own personal astrology should be connected to James and or the Essenes? I hadn’t bothered to look before today.

A JAMES/QUMRAN CONNECTION

In my own natus I found that James stood at 28.21 Libra. On the 14th March when the decision from Jerusalem sent me off into a flurry of messages, Saturn (anything to do with career, reputation and long term aims), was on 28.26 Libra, i.e minutes off exact to James. When I posted a version of this blog on Friday morning it was exact. But where is QUMRAN? It’s natally conjunct my JAMES asteroid at 27.07 Libra. Which means it is in positive trine aspect to my natal Uranus this being the planet of any astrology and astrologers. Essentially one could say I am bringing back some Essenean astrology or astrologizing theology and James is a, or one, of the triggers for this……Necessarily so…. I now see that even at the time I discovered Jesus’ data back in ‘87, James was fortunately trining a world point Midheaven angle making him, as I hadn’t realized till now, vital to the picture. The terrestrial artefact that solely testifies to Jesus is complemented by the more extensive celestial information regarding him.

POPE BENEDICT’S BETHLEHEM STAR

A POPE SUPPORTING AN HISTORICAL CHRISTMAS STORY

To judge from press reports, the most surprising thing about the Pope’s just published reflections on the gospels’ birth and infancy narratives (Jesus of Nazareth: The Infancy Narratives) is how much they have surprised people by just setting Christ’s birth back a few years. I wrongly supposed most people more or less knew some adjustment of the sort was necessary. Also that the birth was not on Christmas Day or in 1 AD but somewhere between 7 and 4 BC at which last most scholars believe Herod died.

As soon as I read on Twitter that Pope Benedict’s book was proclaiming it was likely Jesus was born under a Jupiter/Saturn conjunction of 7BC, I guessed –  rightly enough as I discovered when I downloaded the Kindle version of the book on the 21st  –  there was some influence here from the researches of the noted Austrian astronomer Konradin Ferrari D’Occhieppo (1907-2007).

Again it seems some Catholics have also been surprised by this too. They are so because the Pope, whom Catholics forget is very German and hence vaguely “Protestant” in terms of biblical scholarship, was prepared to be historical (some would say quasi-fundamentalist) enough to look for actual dates and historical happenings. There is after all a strong Catholic, and even relatively early Christian tradition, which regarded the star as a unique, purely miraculous sign which corresponded to nothing that secular or scientific authorities past or present could hope to nail down. It was thought of as more like the shekinah glory of God, pure light, than any star. Despite Matthew’s poetic licence which makes the Star stop over where Christ was born, overall the vocabulary used and the behavior of the heavenly body is consistent with the idea the gospeller had been told of a planet in such as its apparent retrograde motion and its special ascension and he is evoking that.

A NEEDED CHALLENGE TO RICK LARSON’S STAR

The Pope’s new historical emphasis (which has disposed of animals round the crib but insists against the sceptics upon Bethlehem not Nazareth as place of the birth), is not however as significant as some of us felt it could have been as regards the star within the story. But then, it’s true that a year ago the Pope was declaring the real Star of Bethlehem is the Word of God to light us. Accordingly he was never especially looking for either a specific birth date such as D’Occhieppo did try to work towards, or any notable astrological meanings such as precise data could supply us. The pope simply finds the D’Occhieppo theory plausible but is left wondering what we can make of it. (Without some further astrological input one can’t make too much)

The sole revolution here may be to draw at least some Christians away from the more fantastic views of the Bethlehem Star and Christ’s birth date. These have been on the rise in recent years under the influence of Amazon’s all time best selling documentary film, The Star.  Aggressively promoted, this film is now out and being distributed in many countries and languages and faithfully played in many, especially Protestant, churches at Christmas to enthusiastic audiences.

Rick Larson is a Texan lawyer with enough clout and/or cash to obtain the services of  Stephen McEveety, director of Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ, to put out his mixture of somewhat quirky historical  “biblical astronomy” views which have Jesus conceived and born under Jupiter/Venus conjunctions in 3 and 2 BC.

Since the years 10-1 BC are not as well recorded for history as some periods but were rich in all manner of astronomical events, speculation can run wild, as it has done. This is, especially the case if you aren’t prepared to allow the magi were, as per the New English Bible, astrologers looking at the cycles of the heavens and reading a special and specialized symbolism…..The Pope for example says nothing about how the conjunctions of 7 BC were occurring in a degree band of the heavens specifically relevant to events in Israel.

The Larson treatment, no matter how questionable, has the seductive power of cinematic glamour with its rich pictorial and musical backing. Some just cannot imagine the information conveyed with such gasping reverence at mysteries of the starry heavens and divine power could possibly be untrue. But it is. It is terribly, terribly wrong. It also serves to prevent people from seeing or knowing the far greater range of information with all their implications and useful messages for our times which the true birth data will provide us.  I endeavour to supply some indication of this in my recent, perfectly ordinary and quite unglamorous You Tube talk Bethlehem Star: Facts and Fiction  at:

www.bit.ly/R7mSIZ

It is backed up by no music and, though one or two have complained about it, no charts or diagrams either – in the past I have been repeatedly told anything like that only confuses people. So I talked non technically and unaccompanied. I hope anyone could understand what’s said. Part Two is more remarkable than Part One which clears the way to and explains what I am prepared to claim, its how and why.

THE MESSAGE OF THE CHRISTMAS STAR: HIDDEN IN PLAIN VIEW

Whatever else the Pope has got right in his sensible and quite illuminating book, it is unfortunate he does not  suspect the Bethlehem star could be precisely dateable and/or of special meaning. Instead he dismisses it as almost irrelevant to the extent the true star is always the Word of God.

In fact, the Bethlehem star was the messianic Jupiter associated in Jewish astrology with righteousness, not scriptures. Rightly discerned and for the right date and time – which for certain specialized reasons can be pinpointed in the way D’Occhieppo’s researches strove to do – it will tell us much. It can do so because it lies at the centre of an entire larger pattern that more than anything outside the Bible will disclose us Jesus’ destiny and mind.

At the risk of alienating some by the sheer enormity of that claim, I am bound to say the discovery of Christ’s true and completely provable birth data amounts to information akin to a find like the Dead Sea Scrolls. There was much more than an acronychal rising of Jupiter in a zone of the heavens relevant to Israel that the Magi could look for and that we know stargazers were looking for.  Unbeknown to the Magi and not clarified until modern times, like a computer printout the skies were reeling off facts and data by the hundreds like the names and titles of Jesus in super-conjunction in the heavens….You don’t believe me? Then listen to the talk or read my Testament of the Magi  (available Amazon, http://amzn.to/12eP5S8) and don’t let a spontaneous incredulity prevent you. The Psalms did tell you that night to night the skies utter knowledge. If you don’t wish to have that knowledge, the loss and the responsibility are yours.
